Alleppey ( Alappuzha ), is a popular tourist destination in Kerala.  There are numerous canals, beaches and especially backwaters which have made this place the most attractive tourist spot in Kerala. Alleppey is a delight for honeymoon couples. Houseboat cruise, the most special activity at Alleppey, is a really good experience. Lord Curzon, the then viceroy of India in the first decade of the twentieth century, was enamoured by the enchanting scenic beauty of this backwater and he called Alleppey the Venice of the East. So Allappey is very popular by the name Venice of the east. The snake boat races on Punnamada Lake is a well-known annual event of Alappuzha.
